Your donation will buy instruments and supplies for future projects and provide travel stipends to young ophthalmologists interested in helping the medically underserved.
Fiat Lux Foundation is currently raising funds for the following activities:
1. Supporting the Rwanda Institute of Ophthalmology with equipment and training.
The Rwanda International Institute of Ophthalmology (RIIO) is an emerging regional eye center that aims to deliver quality comprehensive eye care for Rwanda and other parts of east Africa. The institute is based on a model that was successfully tested at the LV Prasad Eye Institute, a center of Excellence in India. The Fiat Lux Foundation will provide equipment and training for the RIIO. The equipment will be left in Rwanda and used by local surgeons to help bring sight to thousands of patients over the coming years. Once established, the project will become self-sustaining and will not rely on external funding or expertise.
URGENT APPEAL FOR DONATIONS: Dr. Tayeri confirms that he will be traveling to Kigali, Rwanda the first two weeks of April. Dr. Mathenge is preparing an intensive surgery schedule as well as training sessions for local ophthalmologists. Your donations are urgently needed to purchase a retinal laser, operating microscope, and phacoemulsification unit for performing cataract surgery.
2. Offering a travel stipend to young ophthalmologists who are interested in working in underserved areas.
By providing financial aid to young doctors to allow them to travel to underserved areas, Fiat Lux Foundation is making an investment in the future. Many young surgeons have a desire to do overseas work, but lack the financial resources to fund a trip. We are confident that after experiencing the joy of curing blindness, young doctors will become life-long supporters of international surgical work.
